You have several options for managing the letters of recommendation used for your job search or graduate school applications.
- CareerCenter Placement Service - The UI Career Center stores and mails your letters of recommendation for a nominal fee. Students/Alumni have the option of establishing a confidential or non-confidential file.
- Self-Managed File - Your references send you the letter of recommendation they write and you select which letters to copy and send to prospective employers. This type of file contains non-confidential letters of recommendation which are used most frequently for K-12 teaching employment. Because YOU manage this file, the UI Career Center is not involved. If you already have a file and wish to manage it yourself, there is a $25.00 fee and procedures to follow, listed later.
- School District Web Applications - Some school districts only accept applications through their websites. These schools will have specific instructions on how to submit letters of recommendation. Electronic submission of reference letters could range from emails sent from your letter writer directly to the school district, to websites your references must log into for submitting their letters.
- Commercial Service Provider - For a fee, you can also use an electronic reference letter service, such as:
- Interfolio.com
- EdZapp.com
