What is DISCOVER?
DISCOVER is an on-line program for career decision-making and career research.

Why should I try it?

  • Uncertain about your major or future career?  DISCOVER assessments along with an appointment with a Career Center Advisor, will help you chose a major and decide on a career path.
  • Want to learn more about different careers?  DISCOVER is also a great tool to learn about job expectations, salaries, hiring trends, and pros/cons of different jobs.

Who can use DISCOVER?
Any UI student who can access the Internet can use DISCOVER!

How does it work?
DISCOVER consists of seven sections, each containing several activities.  You don't have to go through all of them, but each one serves a purpose and could help you in some way.  These sections include:

  • Inventories (Interests, abilities, values assessments.  Once you have take these assessments, you will see a summary with suggested occupations for you to consider)
  • Occupations (learn about specific jobs/occupations)
  • Majors (learn about different majors and the careers they relate to)
  • Schools (information about schools nationwide, including graduate schools)
  • Job Search (information and tips on things like resume writing and interviewing)

Once you take the DISCOVER assessments, we strongly recommend that you make an appointment to meet with a Career Center Advisor to review your results and discuss possible career options.
