CALS Computing Services (CCS) is the technical computer support team for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
The team supports faculty, staff and students at locations on campus, at research and Extension centers throughout the state and Extension/4-H offices in every county and on the Fort Hall and Nez Perce Indian reservations.
CCS offers support for all versions of Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS and Linux. CCS offers custom solutions for hardware purchasing and enjoys preferential pricing with many vendors including Dell, IBM and Apple.
CCS is a member of the OETC software consortium and offers educational pricing on software from Adobe, Microsoft and many other vendors.
The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences requires all faculty, staff and students to adhere to the University of Idaho ITS Computer Use Policies. Detailed information is available by visiting the ITS Support Policy page.
University of Idaho and CCS offer some software for use by faculty and staff which is licensed for university-wide use. The UI licenses vary by usage and it is best to check the ITS Support Software page for current details. Software piracy is a serious crime—don't risk the liability by violating the EULA and Software Licensing Agreements. Discounted educational software is available from the UI Bookstore and through CCS via OETC.
Because of the geographic diversity of Extension, CCS provides hardware and software support for educators and staff throughout the state. All services provided by CCS technical personnel will be available for UI-owned computers used in a private home provided the computer is brought to a CALS facility for service. CCS will not provide on-site service in a private home.
CCS will provide limited technical support for privately owned equipment provided it is designated by a CALS administrator as the employee's primary computer for CALS work and the computer is brought to a CALS facility for service and scheduled with CCS personnel. Service is limited to work-related software installation and configuration. The computer case will not be opened. No hardware components will be added, removed or replaced.
Telephone support by CCS technical personnel will be available for a UI-owned computer in a private home and a privately-owned computer in a private home provided it is designated by a CALS administrator as the employee's primary computer for CALS work.
