Biography

Dr. Jack Brown teaches courses in agriculture, plant breeding and biometrics. His major research is directed to developing genetically superior Brassica oilseed (edible and industrial oil types) and condiment mustard (Brassica napus, B. juncea, Sinapis alba, and others) cultivars suitable for a wide range of environments throughout the USA.  He has published over 60 scientific articles and book chapters.

Selected Publications

  • Mazzola, M., Brown, J., Zhao, X, Izzo, A. D., and Pazio, G. 2008. Interaction of Brassicaceous seed meal and apple rootstock on recovery of Pythium spp. and Pratylenchus penetrans from root growth in replant soils.  Plant Dis. 93:51-57.

  • Ross, D.W., J. Brown, J. P. McCaffrey and B. Harmon, 2008.  Cabbage seedpod weevil resistance in canola (Brassica napus L.), yellow mustard (Sinapis alba L.) and canola x yellow mustard hybrids. Can. J. Plant Sci.88:239-245.

Research Projects

Investigates breeding methodologies and the inheritance of important traits in developing new and superior rapeseed cultivars. Examines and develops procedures to increase breeding efficiency and produce genetically superior rapeseed and Canola cultivars.
