William F. Barr Entomological Museum

The University of Idaho’s entomological collection was initiated in 1947 by Professor William F. Barr, and grew over the years into a large university insect and mite collection, with well over one million mounted specimens. Groups best represented are Coleoptera (with world class collections of Cleridae, Buprestidae and Cerambycidae), Lepidoptera, grasshoppers and aquatic insects. School groups are regularly hosted for visits, as part of the important Extension vocation of the museum, in addition to loaning specimens to taxonomists.
