Become a CALS Ambassador

  • Are you a hard worker who enjoys having fun?
  • Do you want to develop exceptional leadership and communication skills?
  • Do you want to further develop skills and foster both personal and professional growth?
  • Would you like the opportunity to work directly with CALS faculty members and administrators?
  • Do you want experience planning college events?
  • Could you benefit from networking with peers and professionals in your field of study, as well as in other areas?
  • Do you want the opportunity to promote higher education and lifelong learning?
  • Do you enjoy sharing your collegiate experience with others?
  • Do you like to travel and meet new people?
If you answer “yes" to many of these questions, you are an ideal candidate to serve as an ambassador for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

Each spring semester, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences recruits students to become members of the program. Interested individuals must submit a completed application and if selected will be interviewed by a selection committee. Those individuals who are chosen as exceptional candidates will be asked to join the team! 

Apply to be an Ambassador!

The competitive selection process consists of several activities: Applicants will be notified if they have been chosen for an interview by the end of Spring Break.

  • Submit complete application
  • Submit personal professional resume
  • Submit Letter of Interest
  • Provide one letter of recommendation from a UI Faculty/Staff, preferably from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences

Please submit your an electronic application packet, including all required materials to Amanda Wilder, CALS Ambassador VP of Development to by 5:00 pm on Friday February 28th. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please Contact Amanda with questions or comments.

The time commitment/duties required of CALS Ambassadors include:


  • Annual Mom's Gala: Friday, April 4th 2014
    • required 1 hour participation (funds go towards the 2013-14 academic year) 
  • CALS Ambassador Training Program (CAT) -  Saturday, May 3rd,2014


FALL SEMESTER (2 credits)

  • 6 hours high school classroom visits
  • Attend all weekly meetings
  • Attend the following events:
    • Retreat (Aug. 29-31, 2014)
    • CALS Back-to-School Picnic (September)
    • AG Days (October 2014)


  • 3 hours high school classroom visits
  • Attend all weekly meetings
  • Participate in calling admitted students for 2 hours
    • Attend the following events:
      • UI Job, Internship and Graduate School Fair (February)
      • Vandal Friday (last Friday in March)
      • One other event throughout the semester. Events TBA in January 2015.
