Volunteer

Give back and gain skills.

Many of our undergraduates round out their education with unique and fulfilling volunteer work. Select a placement based on the experiences you want.

You might:
  • Assist hospital medical staff as they care for patients.
  • Grow organic produce at the plant science farm and donate it to a local food bank.
  • Introduce 4-H youth groups and elementary school classes to the amazing world of insects and soils.
  • Treat sick pets in a veterinary clinic.
  • Work at a clinic in a developing country.
  • Hunt for the giant Palouse earthworm.
  • Tutor at a local school.
  • Mentor an at-risk child.
  • Put on a fashion show to benefit teacher education in Uganda.
  • Paint the playroom at a homeless shelter.
  • Organize professional development workshops for teens.
  • Answer the hotline for a domestic violence center.
  • Plan memory-stimulating activities at an assisted-living facility.
  • Deliver Meals on Wheels.
  • Prune apple trees and help maintain the Nature Conservancy’s historic ranch on the Snake River.
  • Make costumes for children in a child care center.
  • Visit schools to talk to students about nutrition.
  • Read, sing, or play with children at a child care center or Head Start program.
