CALS Advancement Student Internships

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Advancement Office will be offering five student internships this 2014-15 academic year. These internships will provide students majoring in CALS an opportunity to engage with professionals in the areas of development, alumni relations, marketing, communications and public relations.

Successful candidates will be awarded a scholarship at the beginning of fall and spring semesters. The spring semester scholarship will only be awarded if the employer and the student agree that the needs and requirements of the position were met in the fall semester.

Student interns will work together to advance the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences under the direction of the CALS Advancement Student Intern and professionals in CALS on a weekly basis.

  1. CALS Development - $1,000 per semester (6-8 hours per week)
    • A student majoring in CALS will assist the CALS Advancement Team in organizing and implementing events. As needed, this position will assist in fundraising and alumni efforts.
    • This position will work with the CALS Advancement Student Intern and CALS Advancement Team.
  2. CALS Social Media Intern - $2,000 per semester (10-12 hours per week)
    • A student majoring in CALS who will assist the social media efforts of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
      • The social media intern will be responsible for creating, scheduling and monitoring content, following relevant social media accounts, resharing/retweeting and carrying out the overall communication strategy for the main CALS social media pages/accounts.
    • This position will work with the CALS Creative Lead, CALS Advancement Team, CALS Academic Programs, and the Dean.
    • Students will be provided a computer/laptop/tablet to meet the requirements of this position. It is highly encouraged that the student have a smart phone.
  3. University of Idaho Extension Social Media Intern - $2,000 per semester (10-12 hours per week)
    • A student majoring in CALS who will assist the social media efforts of University of Idaho Extension.
      • The social media intern will be responsible for creating, scheduling and monitoring content, following relevant social media accounts, resharing/retweeting and carrying out the overall communication strategy for the main UI Extension social media pages/accounts.
    • This position will work with the CALS Creative Lead, CALS Advancement Team and Extension professionals throughout the state of Idaho.
    • Students will be provided a computer/laptop/tablet to meet the requirements of this position. It is highly encouraged that the student have a smart phone.
  4. CALS Videographer for CALS Talks - $1,000 per semester (6-8 hours per week)
    • A student majoring in CALS who will produce short videos of CALS Faculty, similar to those of "Ted Talks".
    • This position will work with the CALS Science Writer, CALS Communications and Marketing Manager, and CALS Creative Lead to outline and produce each video.
  5. CALS Engagement Intern - $1,000 per semester (6-8 hours per week)
    • A student majoring in CALS who will promote student and alumni involvement in CALS clubs and activities; assists with event planning and implementation; and provides training to CALS clubs in the areas of recruitment, event planning, team building, and leadership skills.
    • This position will work with the CALS Advancement Intern, CALS Academic Programs Office, and Advancement team.

Special Notes
ALL Interns must be willing and able to work nights and weekends to meet the needs of the position.
ALL Interns must be willing and able to work over UI Scheduled breaks and holidays – as needed.
Any travel costs that is required for the position will be covered by CALS.
