The Student Idaho Cattle Association (SICA) is a sub-chapter of the Idaho Cattle Association. The basic mission of SICA is to promote and educate members and the public about the beef industry and its products. Club members come from diverse backgrounds including ranches, feedlots or simply have an interest in agriculture and want to learn more about the beef industry.
In addition to involvement of many campus activities such as Ag Days, Vandal Friday, Ag Olympics, and the Clearwater Corn Maze, SICA members also attend the Idaho Cattle Association’s annual convention held in Sun Valley, ID. Students help with many events during the convention and also have the opportunity to network with cattle producers and vendors at the trade show and listen to keynote speakers from the industry. Another exciting opportunity through SICA is the chance to attend the National Cattleman’s Beef Association (NCBA) convention. Every year SICA sends 2-3 members to the NCBA convention to experience the beef industry on a national level, meet leaders in the legislature and represent the University of Idaho and the Student Idaho Cattle Association.
Each spring SICA members travel on a spring beef industry tour, which allows students the chance to visit many different places within the cattle industry in various parts of Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Tour sites include ranches, feedlots, dairies, beef processing facilities and even a potato processing plant. The spring tour is a great opportunity for students to explore and become more involved in the cattle industry. For more information contact Dr. Carl Hunt
