- Do you want to show the nation that Idaho is a top Agricultural Economics school?
- Are you looking for an amazing summer trip?
- Do you want to find networks for Graduate school and future careers?
If your answer is yes, then the AAEA Quiz bowl is for you!
Five fun students and two awesome advisors went to the AAEA Annual Meeting and competed in the Quiz Bowl in Seattle, Washington on August 11-14. The Quiz bowl is a jeopardy style game in which a group of three students from each school compete on a national level with other agricultural economics programs. The Quiz Bowl is a competition for undergraduate students focusing on critical areas in the Ag industry, such as: Resource and policy, Agri-business Finance, Marketing, Management, Quantitative Analysis, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics.
We sent two teams to compete in the Quiz Bowl that were sponsored by CALS and the Agribusiness Club. Both teams competed well and did a good job representing the AERS and University of Idaho. Students competing were Kelly (Xiou) Lang, Jesse Smit, Jordan Jacobs, and Elena Thompson, as well as Ziang (Sam) Cai from the College of Business and Economics. Go Vandals! This year’s finalists in the competition were Iowa State University and The University of Georgia. The Cyclones from Iowa State emerged as the AAEA National Champion.

Congratulations Elena!
The AAEA National Meeting is a great place to network, build friendships and talk to future graduate schools in which you might be interested, in a fun neutral setting. The AAEA alumni banquets enable you to talk one on one with faculty and ask current students and graduate students questions, as well as learn about career paths from each school taken by former students.
We also had a great time touring with extra free time. Seattle is a beautiful city with many enjoyable things to see, like the world famous Pike’s Place Market and the aquarium. When we weren’t competing we were staying in the Red Lion, eating good food, and going to many of Seattle’s great night life places and events. The weather was superb.
A special thanks to our advisors Dr. Foltz, Dr. Johnson and Dr. Makus for making this year’s Quiz bowl a blast!
