About AERS

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology (AERS) in the University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences provides education, research and extension programs, with particular focus areas in agribusiness, marketing, trade policy, production agriculture, natural resources, and community development.

Students in the B.S. programs in Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics are prepared for a number of exciting career opportunities in the agricultural and food-related sectors. Experiential learning in the capstone course, opportunities outside of the classroom such as the Agribusiness Club, Farm Bureau Club, and meaningful internships build professional skills and networking with professionals in the field.

AERS offers an M.S. degree in Applied Economics in cooperation with the School of Economic Sciences at Washington State University. Numerous past master's students have won prestigious awards for the quality of their thesis research. Following graduation, graduates have done very well in job placement and in admission to top-ranked Ph.D. programs.
