"The College’s new organization coincides with increasing global recognition that the path to sustainability is through integrated vs. compartmentalized solutions. While some may see this as a radical change, I see it as an appropriate evolution that will position U of I’s students to become leaders in creating sustainable environments."

Jim Heid, Founder

"Three years ago, the faculty of the College worked hard over a several-month period to create a new strategic direction. The Vision created at that time was both bold and prescient as the College now takes this appropriate step in its evolution of leadership.

That Vision reads:
The University of Idaho College of Art & Architecture is the school of choice for transdisciplinary, community influenced education. We teach the integrated concepts of art, design and technology with a focus on cultural and environmental stewardship. We effectively prepare students for successful careers and service in our allied fields, and beyond.

By moving toward a more integrated design approach, the College will be better positioned to 'prepare students for successful careers,' effectively responding to a rapidly changing marketplace. Doing so at this time clearly positions the University of Idaho as a leader among academic institutions."

CAA Reconfiguration: An Integrated Design

The College of Art and Architecture continues to prepare students for an exciting and invigorating future!

We recently proposed a reconfiguration of the College that moves us to a single-unit, integrated college of art and design, in which each discipline contributes to and reinforces the educational goals of other disciplines. This positions the College to increase relevance to the industry; develop more flexible formats for delivery of integrated, interdisciplinary teaching and research; and meet the call for larger departments and more efficient management structures.

The new configuration would create greater synergy between faculty members and students, mirroring the evolving profession that centers on integrated disciplines. As a result, it positions the College of Art and Architecture to continue as a leading educational model for the industry. We are confident that this integrated design will prepare our students for the changing profession.
