Stretching Your Artistic Talents

Strengthen your knowledge and competency in studio art in a self-directed program for experienced, certified art teachers. Choose a studio concentration and tailor your studies by combining two or more of these areas including painting, drawing, sculpture and more.

The MAT Art degree has been suspended.  New applications are not being accepted.  The degree is set for elimination due to a university program review (FFF) mandated by the Idaho State Board of Education.

Degree Roadmap Students who graduate with a Master of Art in Teaching will complete 30 required credits toward the degree, at least 6 must be in education and at least 20 in art. Courses Include:

  • Seminar, history, criticism and philosophy
  • Studio
  • Approved graduate education courses
  • Online portfolio development
Degree Prep To prepare for obtaining your Master of Art in Teaching, we recommend you:
  • have an interest in painting, sculpture, graphic design, interface design
  • be flexible and allow our optional, self-directed online program help you achieve your goals 
  • have a portfolio of your personal work showcasing your talent and passion for art

This fee partially supports personnel as well as the equipment, tools and supplies that are available for our majors to utilize within their class work.
