The Master of Science in Integrated Architecture and Design is a graduate level experience that integrates programs in the College of Art and Architecture. The degree offers a research program to students from across the design disciplines and returning professionals who desire to develop expertise in collaborative, trans- and interdisciplinary studies. Students will be asked to use design thinking, virtualization, and visual problem-solving to address complex systems.
The mission of the College of Art and Architecture (CAA) programs is to be an internationally respected, student-centered institution in alignment with the University of Idaho’s Strategic Plan. The goal of the MS Integrated Design program is to transform the University of Idaho into one of the top institutions in North America for producing quality graduates who are in conducting research culminating in action-oriented and entrepreneurial design solutions.
Additional objectives of the MS Integrated Architecture and Design program are to:
•Produce an integrative Masters-level design program that builds upon and serves all programs: VTD, Art & Design, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Architecture
•Foster and expand exploratory research within and outside the CAA;
•Coordinate college-wide discussions of critical research, curricular and co-curricular needs;
•Broaden research collaborations across campus;
•Strengthen student and faculty directed research projects;
•Educate students to address complex problems and explore new, cutting-edge design and research solutions.
What You Learn
At the core of the MS Integrated Architecture and Design is a strong emphasis on creative design thinking as applied to individualized research. With top faculty as your mentors, you will engage in a research project defined by your strengths and interests. Your research may focus on unique problems within or across a number of topics including:
• Environmental studies
• Behavior studies
• Sustainable architecture
• Computing, virtualization and visualization studies
• Spatial/cultural agency and social justice
• Sociological and psychological impacts of the built environment
• Entrepreneurial product development
M.S. Integrated Architecture and Design students have opportunities to engage in research at both the Moscow campus and Idaho Urban Research and Design Center in Boise, where you can work with academic faculty and practicing professionals to examine problems unique to urban communities. Also in Boise is the Integrated Design Lab that is dedicated to the development of high performance energy efficient buildings.
