Idaho Urban Research Design Center
Idaho Urban Research Design Center - College of Art & ArchitectureThe Idaho Urban Research and Design Center is an educational and outreach program of the University of Idaho’s School of Architecture, Design, and Art. Located in the city of Boise, Idaho, the satellite school is 300 miles from the main University of Idaho campus in Moscow, Idaho. Boise has a vibrant city center and is continuing to build upon its artistic and cultural base. Students of the IURDC have the opportunity to help shape Boise’s cultural and metropolitan identity.
Areas of study include architecture, sustainability, urban design and planning, community planning, environmental studies, real estate development, and construction management.
The IURDC provides a unique opportunity for students within the Department of Architecture to reside in Boise for educational and preprofessional experiences. In addition to course work in Urban Design and Architecture, students may have the opportunity to participate in real collaborative projects and research with project participants from government, the arts, cultural, business, and residential communities. These opportunities give students a different educational experience that that offered in Moscow.
Complementing the IURDC, the Integrated Design Lab (IDL) is dedicated to the development of high performance buildings in Idaho and Eastern Oregon. Design teams that utilize the resources available through the IDL will design buildings that are more comfortable for people, require less energy to maintain and operate, and enhance the health and productivity of their inhabitants.
