    INVITATION FROM CHAIR

View/Download the Invitation Letter in pdf file.

    Dear Sir or Madame:

The University of Idaho and Iowa State University have received a grant to study market barriers to biodiesel use by selected segments of the diesel fuel market. As part of this process we are holding a Biodiesel Utilization Workshop for personnel associated with State Departments of Transportation at the Centre on the Grove in Boise, Idaho, September 9 and 10, 2004. The grant will help us keep costs of attending the conference to a minimum but unfortunately is not sufficient to defray the travel costs of individuals.

This letter is to invite two people from each State Department of Transportation to this workshop on Biodiesel. The workshop will present information on biodiesel use, OEM Warranty, ASTM specifications, biodiesel availability and production. It will also provide a forum for identifying concerns related to State DOT Biodiesel use and set in motion a process to address those concerns. This is a targeted audience, invited attendance workshop. In order, to encourage participation from a wide spectrum of State DOT people we are setting the registration fee for two people from each state at $100.00 each to cover basic meal and registration expenses provided at the workshop. Registration for others is $300.00 per person.

The objectives of the conference are to: 1) To share up-to-date information about biodiesel production, availability and use with employees of the state departments of transportation and 2) To have employees of state departments of transportation share barriers to increased use of biodiesel by their fleets.

We would greatly appreciate you sending at least two people, hopefully one from your maintenance group and one from your fuel purchasing division to learn about biodiesel and to share your experiences and concerns.

Additional information and conference brochure will be mailed later in March. Other sponsors of this Conference are the Pacific Biomass State and Local Partnerships Program , the Idaho State Energy Division, the University of Idaho National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology and the National Biodiesel Board.

More information about this workshop can be found at http://www.BiodieselEducation.org/ or by e-mailing peterson@uidaho.edu .

Would you please notify us of who we should contact from your state regarding their interest in attending the conference by returning the enclosed card and/or by sending an e-mail to the above address so that we can correspond with the interested individuals.

Our goal is to have two people from each of the fifty states or 100 people, plus presenters and a limited number of other interested people, attend this conference.

    Sincerely,

    Charles L. Peterson, P. E.
