Drawing I is a studio course in which students are introduced to a variety of techniques that will be required in their professional lives. A combination of in-class studio drawing, sketchbook work and drawing undertaken outside of class time will allow students to practice coordinating the hand and eye. Learning to see is as important as any of the drawings produced for the class.

Observational drawing is emphasized. The communicative, creative and expressive potential of drawing is discussed. Students are introduced to the use of value and line, devices for defining and depicting space, techniques for assessing proportion and figure drawing.
