In-Class Assignments

There will be time to complete the following work in class. It is expected that work not completed in class will be completed outside of class. The in-class assignments will help you understand the elements of line, shape/planes, volume, mass, space and texture as well as be helpful in resolving the final work.

Two foam core studies exploring design principles will be created during class time. Both assignments should be carefully crafted refined works with cleanly cut foam core. No adhesive should be visible. Craftsmanship is a consideration in the assessment of the quality of the work. Each assignment should also use at least 8"x10" of foam core and be made up of 2 separate shapes. Choose 2 of the following options:

Planes/Volume - Create a 3D design that uses planes to articulate volume.

Balance - Create a 3D design, using 2 different geometric shapes, that is asymmetrically balanced.

Negative Space - Create a 3D design, using 2 different geometric shapes, with more negative space than positive space.

Volume/Mass - Create a 3D design, using 2 different geometric shapes, that has ample volume but little mass.
