It's spring break, and many of our students are out using their free time to its fullest extent on Alternative Service Breaks
across the nation.
As of fall 2013, University of Idaho ASB teams have served local communities in 25 states and 11 countries.
Nine teams of about ten students each are contributing to restoration projects near Grangeville, Idaho; serving the City Light Home for Women and Children in Boise; helping Palmdale, Calif.'s Farm Sanctuary protect farm animals from cruelty; and aiding low-income and elderly individuals in home renovation projects for Greater Blessings in Louisiana, among other projects.
Fortunately, students will have the opportunity to catch up on family time during the upcoming
Moms' Weekend 2014 April 4-6

This photo, contributed by Jenni Robinson Chaffin '05, shows the 50-foot sailboat a group of eight Idaho alumni (and a lone Boise State University graduate) took through the Grenadine Islands in the Caribbean. The crew proudly flew the Vandal flag the entire seven-day trip last December. Go Vandals!

Vandal women make their third tournament trip since 1984
The University of Idaho will enter the 2014 NCAA Tournament as a No. 14 seed in the Louisville Region. The Vandals will play the third-seeded Louisville Cardinals on Sunday, Mar. 23 in Iowa City, Iowa (2:30 p.m. PT, ESPN).
The Vandals have made back-to-back NCAA Tournaments for the first time in school history. Last season, Idaho was a No. 16 seed and played against the eventual national champion UConn Huskies. This time around Louisville enters the tournament ranked No. 4 in the country by the Associated Press. The Cardinals are coming off a 75-52 loss to UConn in the American Athletic Conference championship.
This will be the third NCAA Tournament trip for the Vandal women. Idaho first made the tournament in 1984, after a 28-2 season.

125 Years of Vandal Moms
Moms' Weekend 2014 April 4-6
No one knows, but Andrea Frieson’s family tree is located on the University of Idaho campus. Each time she comes to see her daughter Tiffany, the visit ends at a special arbor near the Administration Building.
Saying goodbye Tiffany’s freshman year brought them both to tears, something Frieson said was harder than watching Tiffany go off to kindergarten. Now that Tiffany is a senior, these goodbyes are getting easier. And as they both learn the ins and outs of campus – the visits are more fun.
Moms’ Weekend April 4-6 will be no different.
Nine student teams serving five states during Alternative Service Break
Spring ASBs are weeklong domestic service trips for which all undergraduate students are eligible to apply. Students give up their spring break to serve, learn and lead in the community. Teams are typically composed of 10 students and one faculty/staff adviser.
Last spring, the ASB program organized 12 trips with 120 students and 12 faculty/staff advisers to engage in service and hands-on learning. This spring, 9 ASB teams will serve in five states March 15-23. A continued emphasis has been placed on serving communities near our own.
