Vandals present and future have been soaking up the public eye this last week. Students from high schools around the Northwest attended the 46th annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. They attended numerous workshops including those offered by departments around campus to show how different aspects of education are influenced by jazz. Others performed alongside some of the 16 guest artists from around the world.

All great experiences of what it means to be a Vandal - and there are many photo and video memories to share.

More than 95,000 alumni can affirm that attending the University of Idaho is something special. Do you know someone who would be a good fit for the Idaho mold? Grow the Gold by nominating a future Vandal.

Alumni in the Limelight

The lives of two Idaho alumni were thrust into the limelight Sunday. The 2012 movie Argo, directed by Ben Affleck, was nominated for seven Academy Awards. It won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing.

The film is set during a rescue mission to save six U.S. diplomats of the 1980 Iranian Hostage Crisis. The event is one that agricultural economics alumnus Lee Schatz recalls well – he was one of the diplomats. In addition, theatre graduate Andrew Varenhorst was cast as an extra in the film.

Making the Jazz Festival Possible

Tom ‘59 and Teita Reveley have been longtime supporters at U-Idaho. The Bainbridge Island, Wash., couple have been supporting and attending the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival for years. They also were major donors to the Steinway grand piano in the Administration Auditorium, which received a lot of use during the festival this past week.

Teita Reveley, for her great distinction while providing faithful service to the university, was recognized Friday as an honorary member of University of Idaho Alumni Association.

McClure Symposium Packs State Capitol

More than 240 attendees packed the Idaho State Capitol Auditorium on Feb. 19 to hear U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo and Rep. Mike Simpson, among others, share their thoughts on the fate of the economy during the McClure Symposium’s panel discussion on federal fiscal issues.
