Bill Frederiksen '71
2013 Jim Lyle Award Recipient
Bill Frederiksen will receive Honorary Alumni Recognition for providing faithful and distinguished service to the University of Idaho and its alumni. He will be honored at the Eastern Idaho Silver and Gold Celebration 6 p.m. April 23 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 700 Lindsay Boulevard in Idaho Falls.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences in 1971.
For 23 years, he played a pivotal role in the Steer-A-Year program to benefit the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Department of Athletics. Each year some 50 head of steer are donated to U-Idaho for hands-on animal science courses and other educational purposes including 4-H and FFA judging contests. Steers are sold when they reach market weight, and carcass data on steers is collected. Revenue collected is donated to Animal Science and Athletics scholarships as well as beef research.
Since 2012, $569,215 has been raised with $199,429 earmarked for athletic scholarships. Additional dollars are distributed to the Idaho Cattle Association Scholarship Fund and the Beef Industry Research Endowment.
“(Frederiksen) has devoted a major portion of his life ensuring that students receive the necessary resources to help achieve their dreams,” said Rob Spear, director of athletics. “Time is one of life’s most valued commodities, and we are fortunate that Bill has dedicated his time to the University of Idaho.”
