    Ag Talk Tuesday

    Ag Talk Tuesdays are virtual sessions about agriculture with University of Idaho professionals and peers to discuss current crop issues and timely topics as the field season progresses.

    Held the first and third Tuesday from May through August via Zoom (registration required).

    Every session begins with crop updates, where U of I personnel and attendees are invited to provide the group with updates of current season crop issues. Featured topics and guest speakers follow the round-table crop updates.

    • May 6 — Water update; speaker Keith Esplin, executive director of Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer Recharge and Eastern Idaho Water Rights Coalition, host Doug Finkelnburg
    • May 20 — Do-It-Yourself online tools and approaches to set up and evaluate on-farm trials with satellite imagery; speaker Erin Books, U of I professor and ag engineer; host Doug Finkelnburg
    • June 3 — Thinking outside the box: utilizing habitat modification to control voles; speaker Joseph Sagers, Extension educator; host Juliet Marshall
    • June 17 — Showcasing J.R. Simplot Endowed Dean Michael Parrella, a look at his career at U of I; speaker Dean Michael Parrella, host Juliet Marshall
    • July 1 — Weeds mapping at scale; speaker Joaquin Casanova, research engineer with the USDA Agricultural Research Service’s Northwest Sustainable Agroecosystems Research Unit in Pullman, Washington, host Kasia Duellman
    • July 15 — Creating beneficial arthropod habitats on farms; speakers Brad Johnson and Blake Mathews of The Nature Conservancy, host Juliet Marshall
    • Aug. 5 — New insight on effects of cattle grazing on sage-grouse populations; U of I speakers Courtney Conway, professor of wildlife studies, and Karen Launchbaugh, professor of rangeland ecology; host Kasia Duellman
    • Aug. 19 — Idaho crop profitability outlook; speaker Patrick Hatzenbuehler, U of I associate professor and Extension specialist of crop economics, host Juliet Marshall
