In 1988, the Agricultural Research Service constructed the National Small Grains Germplasm Research Facility (NSGGRF) to provide security for the internationally known National Small Grains Collection. This facility now stores over 118,000 accessions of wheat, barley, oat, rice, rye, and triticale germplasm and related wild species.
