1997 Cereal Forage Trial at Kimberly, ID
Methods: The winter trial was planted in the fall of 1996 (Sept. 30) and the spring trial was planted early spring (March 27) of 1997. Seeding rates were set at 1 million seeds per acre (approx. 95 lbs/A- wheat or barley). The winter trial was harvested at the late boot to heading stage. The spring trial was duplicated and harvested at the late boot to heading stage and at the soft dough stage to determine dry matter increases between two harvest stages. Samples were taken during harvest for dry matter and forage quality analysis. The forage quality data is not available at this time but it will be posted as soon as possible.
Results: Table 1 shows the results from the winter forage trial at Kimberly. Table 2 shows the results from the date 1 harvest (see bottom of table for harvest dates) for the spring cereal forage trial at Kimberly. Table 3 shows the results from the date 2 harvest (see bottom of table for harvest dates) for the spring cereal forage trial at Kimberly. Table 4 shows the % dry matter and dry weights for both harvest dates of the spring cereal forage trial at Kimberly.
