Re: Meeting to Discuss Proposed Statistics Curriculum Changes and to Obtain Feedback from Affected Curriculum

Date: April 24, 2001

On Thursday, April 26, the Division of Statistics will hold an open meeting beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge of Brink Hall to discuss a number of proposed changes in both its undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Because these proposed curriculum changes will affect other programs within UI, we are inviting interested faculty members to join our meeting, to provide us with suggestions, and to participate in an open discussion of the proposed changes.

More specifically, the Division of Statistics is proposing to:

- add a second semester of undergraduate statistical methods (ST- 351) as a sequel to ST-251, with ST-251 or its equivalent as a prerequisite,

- add a graduate level course in introductory statistical concepts (ST-511) with no statistical prerequisite required, and

- replace the current course ST-401 (Data Analysis) by a graduate course (ST-515) containing essentially all of the material presently covered in ST-401 plus coverage of Logistic Regression, Binomial Regression, and Poisson Regression topics.

The first portion of the meeting will consist of a presentation (10-15 minutes) of the proposed curriculum changes, an explanation of the Division's justification for proposing such changes, and detailed course syllabi; to be followed by an open discussion period to identify perceived problem areas, how to productively handle these areas, and to incorporate suggestions from faculty associated with other programs.

The Division of Statistics welcomes your suggestions and your presence at this meeting.

If you are unable to attend the discussion on April 26, please feel free to e-mail your comments to stat@uidaho.edu.
