In Memoriam
Allison Ray Manson, 62, of Lewiston and formerly of Martinsville, Va., died Friday, January 11, 2002 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Lewiston, Idaho of cancer and its complications.
He was born in Booneville, Missouri, January 24, 1939 to John L. Manson and Alpha Banning Manson of Charlottesville, Virginia.
He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1956 and received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. In 1965, he earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he graduated first in his class. He joined the North Carolina State University faculty as an Assistant Professor of Statistics in 1966.
In 1970, Dr. Manson was awarded the outstanding teacher award. In 1988 he resigned his NCSU position to pursue consulting opportunities. In 1997, Dr. Manson joined the faculty at the University of Idaho as Professor and Director of the Division of Statistics.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sons, Jon of Raleigh, N.C., Joshua of Greenville, N.C., Lance of Morrisville, N.C., and Andrew of Cary, N.C.; one grandson; and several cousins, aunts and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Dan, on January 5, 2002.
A funeral was held in Martinsville, VA at the First Baptist Church of Martinsville with the Rev. John Fulcher officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park. A memorial service was held at Orchard Baptist Church in Lewiston. He will be greatly missed.
