OCR Campus Visit: General Information
Campus sexual violence is an important issue that the University of Idaho takes very seriously. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is currently reviewing the university’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendment Acts of 1972, which is the federal law that prohibits sexual harassment. Sexual violence, including rape, is a form of sexual harassment.
Representatives from OCR will be on the Moscow campus on these dates:
- Wednesday | February 26th, 2014
- Thursday | February 27th, 2014
While OCR staff are here, they will be conducting focus group sessions to discuss campus sexual violence with certain groups of students. They will also be available for office hours.
OCR is interested in speaking with anyone who would like to talk about campus sexual violence, including survivors of sexual violence or sexual harassment. Please feel free to come to OCR’s office hours or to contact them individually (see contact information below). OCR has informed us that it keeps records of its contacts, and those records are public records which are subject to public disclosure laws, but any identifying information in these records is redacted or removed before release to the public. OCR staff will be in the Student Union Building (SUB) in the Chief’s Room and in the International Ballroom West during their visit.
OCR staff will hold their open office hours on Thursday, February 27th from 2:15-4:30 p.m. in the SUB Chief’s Room.
If you need a more private place to speak with an OCR staff person, please contact them prior to the visit (see contact information below).
If you are unable to come to OCR’s office hours while they are on campus, the following OCR staff who will be visiting the campus are also available on an ongoing basis before and after this onsite visit to speak with you during their normal working hours. Please feel free to call or e-mail them.

Samantha Wilson, Equal Opportunity Investigator
During the same week that OCR visits our campus, OCR will be at Washington State University’s Pullman campus conducting the same type of review.
