Violence Prevention Programs
Working together to change the culture of violence through collaboration and celebration of the voice of the individual and power of the bystander.
Success in college demands much from your body, mind, and spirit. It’s tough to focus on studies when problems with relationships and other people get in the way, especially when violence is involved. The Dean of Students Office is here for you if you need guidance regarding issues of violence.
The Violence Prevention Program in the Dean of Students Office works for culture change through outreach and education – putting the face on violence through lived voices and experiences. Our Speaker’s Bureau members and Green Dot teams speak to living groups, classrooms and at events, and the Violence Prevention office offers a variety of presentations for students, staff and faculty that explore issues of intimate violence.
These Violence Prevention Program web pages offer practical information including self-tests, statistical data and local contacts for help with issues relating to sexual violence, dating and domestic violence and stalking as well as guidance on what steps to take following an assault, how to help a friend and what the judicial process looks like, on campus and in the community. We also post regular updates on related issues in the news, and can serve as a resource for papers and other scholarly projects.
At the University of Idaho, we support you in making informed, independent decisions about all aspects of your life, including when things get complicated and violence is involved. You’re a Vandal. Just remember, you aren’t walking alone. If you or someone you know has experienced a sexual assault or is in an abusive relationship, we are here to listen, support, and provide you with resources and options.
Students, staff and faculty at UI are committed to eliminating all forms of violence on our campus, and there are numerous ways to get involved, from Green Dot to our Speaker’s Bureau. Check them out! Contact VPP Coordinator Virginia Solan for more information.
