Idaho's Founding University
The University of Idaho was founded in 1889 to fulfill the land-grant university mission: opening the doors of higher education to the citizens of Idaho. Since then, the University of Idaho has grown into one of the nation's top research institutions, becoming an engine for educational innovation and economic growth.
Today, the university is home to nearly 12,000 students and more than 2,400 faculty and staff. Never forgetting its roots and traditions, Idaho’s only national research university continues to help generations of students create new legacies of leading.
Throughout 125 years of groundbreaking work in fields ranging from agriculture and forestry to the social sciences, STEM education and law, we've not only changed lives, we've inspired futures.
